VP of Biopharmaceutical Development

The overall responsibility of the position will be to provide strong scientific leadership in delivering solutions to customers (internally and externally) developing biologics with a strong focus on products such as monoclonal antibodies and vaccines, but including others such as recombinant proteins / peptides, oligonucleotides, gene and cell therapies.
Key responsibilities:

Reviewing literature and attending conferences to keep abreast of developments in biologics development with respect to company services, with a strong focus on pharmacology / toxicology.
Understanding the way in which biologics therapeutics are being developed and advising the business on any new developments.
Helping to develop the “Company brand” in terms of style and content of bid response in the areas of biologics development.
Ensuring that strong links are maintained with sales and operational areas in order to keep an integrated approach to biologics development solution provision.
Playing a personal and “hands-on” role in advising on specific studies or programs (with Business Development, Client Services and Program Management).
Being an advisor, as required, to our study scientists on assay development “troubleshooting” related matters.
Expanding influence beyond non-clinical safety assessment into discovery and clinical areas of the business.
Elevating the scientific standing of the company by publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at scientific meetings.
This a senior position but will have no direct reports and will instead matrix relationship with divisional directors and heads of department in all areas of the business.
Where different approaches are required from other pharmaceutical classes and chemicals the job holder will be an advocate for best practice.
Coaching and mentoring key scientists as necessary.
Talent spotting – identification of high performing individuals for further development to support business, particularly those who can assist in development of the biologics business.
Ensuring a high level of familiarity with the drug pipelines of key customers, including very frequent face to face contact.
Working with Business Development to ensure new sales leads are progressed and our biologics services promoted.
The holder of the role should expect to spend at least 20% of his/her time travelling.
Helping to ensure that the biologics business has a strong external and internal scientific profile, this will include the job holder’s own participation in industry conferences and events.
Participating in appropriate, biologics focused, industry bodies where appropriate.


A PhD or equivalent pharmacutical industry experience is required.
A minimum of 10 years of relevant post-doctoral experience, in academia and/or industry.
A doctorate in Immunology is preferred but not essential.
An expert in biologics therapeutic development.
Demonstrated skills in scientific collaborations and good publication record in peer reviewed journals.
Demonstrable experience in managing research projects in an academic or industry environment.
Proficiency in overseeing the design and running of biopharmaceutical development projects.
