Job Purpose

Electrical connection/installation and assembly of low and medium voltage switchgear and related equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Work under the general guidance of the Wiring Production Supervisor and Wiring Leadmen.
  •  Perform assembly operations and wiring functions to final completion or refurbishment on all breakers, switchgear, cradles or any related switchgear or breaker equipment.
  •  Read and interpret mechanical/electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders and reports in order to determine material requirements and assembly instructions.
  •  Adjust, repair and replace electrical components/parts to correct defects and to ensure conformance of specifications.
  • Prepare and install circuit breakers, security and fire protection systems, selective and control relays, station batteries and chargers, lighting fixtures, conduit systems, grounding systems and various other electrical equipment.
  •  Maintain clean and safe work area.
  •  All duties assigned by your immediate supervisor and/or management.
  •  Responsible for understanding and executing Company goals and objectives while actively contributing to the cohesiveness of the team.
  • Education
           High School Diploma or equivalent.
  •  Experience
            1-2 years wiring experience preferred
  •  Specialized knowledge
Minimum Tools Required for Wireman Position
  • Wire strippers
  • Tool bag
  • Tetra Crimp HT (Company will provide for the first 3 weeks only)
  • Comfort Crimp STA-KON ER (Company will provide for the first 3 weeks only)
  • Screw Drivers -Flat/Philips
  • Wire Cutters/Dykes 

o Understand methods and requirements for qualifying the metal-clad medium-voltage switchgear class that contain draw out electrical components such as grounded metal barriers.
  •  Skills
o Able to read and comprehend point-to-point wiring diagrams, operation instruction and procedure manuals.
o Able to write simple correspondence and complete routine reports.
o Able to label, lug, terminate and run several gauge wire with minimal errors.
o Able to use/operate; portable power tools, ladders, electrical testing equipment as required.
o Able to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division calculations using whole numbers and fractions.
o Able to read a measuring tape to a 1/16” measurement.
  •  Abilities
o Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagrammatic form.
o Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
o Written and spoken English
  •  Professional Certification(s)
o Able to attain forklift and overhead crane certificate within (2) weeks of employment as required.
